The bottom

Our gluteal muscles are responsible for stretching our hips, a movement that we hardly ever perform in everyday life. By sitting for long periods and bending forward, our hip flexors shorten and our hip extenders become insufficient, i.e. too weak. Also the abduction of the leg is done by the gluteal muscles, a movement that is also rarely performed in everyday life.

Our buttock muscles are underchallenged and break down. This can lead to bad posture and overloading of other joints and the back. Training for the buttocks is therefore not only important for a good body feeling and a firm buttocks, but also important for health.

The gluteal muscles are supported in their function by the muscles at the back of the thigh, the ischiocrural muscles. This is responsible for knee flexion and hip extension. The musculature of the rear thigh starts at our pelvis, it also shapes the buttocks and supports the healthy straightening of the pelvis.

Since our buttocks are physiologically one of the largest fat deposits (about half to 2/3 of the total mass of the buttocks) of the human body, even if overweight, additional fat is often deposited and makes the buttocks a problem zone. Additional weak connective tissue quickly leads to pronounced cellulite. Our buttocks are mainly determined by the subcutaneous fat deposits, but can also be shaped by our muscles.

A strong musculature makes a taut butt shape. Untrained musculature, on the other hand, also makes the shape of the buttocks look limp. Well-known buttocks from everyday life are the apple butt, which is rather round and slightly protruding, and the pear butt, which becomes wider and more oval towards the bottom.

The butt shape and the places where more and faster fat is deposited is anatomically determined. The bony base below also has a great influence on the appearance of our buttocks. The shape of our pelvic bones provides the framework for our buttocks. Thus, women tend to have a wider pelvis than men and usually also more subcutaneous fat deposits.
