The consequences for the mother

In the mother, the consequences of anemia in pregnancy are not serious at first. In most cases there is a reduction in quality of life – affected mothers are tired and their performance is limited. In addition, headaches, concentration difficulties and muscle pain can occur.

As the pregnancy progresses, however, the complications can become more serious as the body is increasingly stressed. Anemia can make pregnancy more difficult and, by damaging the child, can also become a danger to the mother. In addition, an increased tendency to bleed can occur at birth, making more severe treatment necessary and in the worst case can be life-threatening. Fortunately, such severe anaemias occur in very rare cases.
