The course of disease of the calcified kidney

The course of the calcified kidney is progressive without treatment of the disease. While at the beginning only small calcifications are deposited, this increases with time. Initially, the kidney therefore appears, for example, in ultrasound with only slightly brightened tissue.

Gradually, however, the calcium deposits become denser until there are many small calcium splashes or the formation of one or more kidney stones. At the same time, the kidney function is worsened by the calcium deposits, so that metabolic waste products are excreted more poorly, even liquid is no longer excreted sufficiently at some point and water retention occurs as a result of this renal insufficiency.
