The critical evaluation

Probiotics are unfortunately still not fully understood. This is an important reason why they are very controversial. While some studies explain the positive use, particularly regarding stomach intestine illnesses, there are also again and again studies, which cannot recognize a use.

So there seem to be very big differences from patient to patient. Thus Probiotika can contribute with some humans to the regeneration of the Darmflora and be partly still for a long time in the intestine provable, while with others already after shortest time they are no longer provable and apparently also no effectiveness show. The treatment areas of probiotics are also not clearly defined.

Meanwhile large reviews have shown that probably diarrheal diseases are a main area of application of probiotics. Whether other organ systems, such as the skin or the brain, can also be positively influenced, is partly suspected, but is by no means proven. Another important point is the underestimation of side effects of probiotics. This is because probiotics can even be harmful under certain circumstances.

The side effects of probiotics

Many people underestimate the fact that probiotics may not only be beneficial but also harmful. Thus, a scientific study was able to prove a worrying phenomenon.Patients who took probiotics in large quantities developed severe gastrointestinal complaints after some time. Some even suffered from impaired consciousness and their body showed hyperacidity.

The reason was masses of lactic acid bacteria. These had settled not only in the large intestine, where their actual site of action is, but also in the small intestine and stomach. The excessively produced lactic acid disturbed the environment of the intestine and caused hyperacidity with disturbances of consciousness.

This incorrect colonization of the lactic acid bacteria occurs not only with excessive consumption of probiotics, but also in the so-called short bowel syndrome (affected persons lack portions of the small bowel), with low bowel activity and constipation, as well as with the additional intake of some drugs. In addition, patients with a reduced immune system and patients with severe inflammation, for example pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), showed significant side effects. Even the mortality of these groups of people increased when taking probiotics.
