The Different Skin Types: Structure, Function & Diseases

This guide describes the different skin types and how to determine, recognize and care for their skin type. Each person has a different skin type, which must be correctly identified in order to care for it accordingly. Therefore, use a magnifying mirror like the ones men use when shaving. If they look at themselves critically in it, they will be able to see not only the texture of their skin, but also flaws and imperfections that need to be addressed.

The different types of skin

The beautician distinguishes several skin types, which are described in the following, to give them also immediately some tips for the treatment.

Normal skin

This skin reminds us of a peach, it is velvety, firm, well supplied with blood, fine-grained, neither too oily nor too dry and without annoying freckles or moles. For the care of a normal skin, daily washings with lukewarm water and mild soap or a borax additive are sufficient. After washing, always rinse well and be sparing with cream, because this skin forms enough fat by itself. However, it requires very careful treatment and must not be irritated by vigorous rubbing or pressing when applying cream. We usually enjoy a normal skin in children, unfortunately, it usually changes during puberty.

Oily skin

Oily or greasy skin types (see also Oily skin) are characterized by impurities such as pimples and blackheads, because the pores are clogged due to excessive secretion of fat. Such skin is more common in dark-haired people than in blond ones. It is strong and large-pored, but has the good quality of not aging so quickly. It should not be treated with too strong means such as frequent soap washes, high percentage face lotion or pure alcohol. Think about oily hair. The more often you wash it, the faster it becomes greasy because the sebaceous glands are stimulated by washing. So you have to do the work for them and use non-degreasing agents for care. You clean this skin with facial milk or cleansing cream, but preferably with cleansing oil and rinse richly with cold water, to which you can add some lemon juice. Vitamin creams, ichthyol preparations, sulfur powder and acidic (astringent) toner are recommended.

Dry skin

Dry skin types (see also Dry skin) are found very often, especially in blond and red-haired people. Too little fat is produced by the sebaceous glands, so the skin often appears scaly and rough. Sometimes it also appears smooth and shiny, but taut. This thin, delicate skin is sensitive to weather conditions and water changes. The pores are small, blackheads are absent, but now and then grains of semolina form. Wrinkles and “crow’s feet” appear more quickly than in oily skin and easily give the face a withered look. Soap washes, treatments with high percentage facial tonic and long sun exposure should be avoided. To such skin it is necessary to apply fat cream several times a day – but not too much at once – so that the dryness is balanced.

Large pores skin

Large pores skin types are also called “orange peel skin” (orange peel, orange peel). It often arises from the skin that is too oily. Due to permanent fat secretions, the pores can be dilated, most often above the nose. The cause can also be excessive steam baths and excessive exposure to the sun. Pores can also be dilated by powder applied to unprotected skin. Astringent agents are recommended.

Well perfused skin

Well-perfused skin types usually have healthy skin. The red-cheeked types always look blooming, although they often don’t feel like it. You have to be very careful with this skin so as not to increase blood circulation. Use only very soft towels for drying. For care do not use hormone creams, but nourishing and vitamin creams.

Poorly circulated skin

Dry skin can be treated by moisturizing creams or masks and packs. Poorly perfused skin types always appear pale, although not every pale type is suffering. The skin is often dry. Vigorous massaging and treatment with circulation-enhancing agents such as camphor facial tonic, fennel or chlorophyll creams help here.

Nervous, hypersensitive skin

Nervous and hypersensitive skin types should be treated with special care, because they are easily prone to irritation and redness. It is often sensitive to certain substances, sometimes even to water, which is tolerated only boiled. In such cases it is necessary to use very mild, little or no perfumed creams and facial tonics with low alcohol content. The skin must be treated lightly and carefully, and especially protected from external influences. It is expedient to use for care lactalbin ointment, which can be bought in pharmacies.

Sports or leather skin

Sports or leather skin types are sun tanned and tanned by the weather. They have deeply ingrained wrinkles. You have to soften it with packs and compresses, grease it a lot and massage it vigorously to restore a softer appearance.

Mixed skin

The combination skin type is probably the most common. Many of us have oily skin over the nose and chin, while the cheek areas are dry. One must be careful to treat the different areas separately when caring for them. While the oily areas require astringents, the dry ones need to be creamed more to make them match the others. However, the cleansing is the same for the whole face.

Aging or atropic skin

Aging and atropic skin types get every older person, whether they like it or not. The first wrinkles and folds are not welcome, and some people notice with horror these “messengers of old age” that they would like to cover. This skin must get a lot of fat and water. Hormone creams are also appropriate. Nourishing, firming masks, packs and blood circulation-enhancing massages are means to give even the aging person a well-groomed appearance. If they have now correctly identified and assessed their skin type, they can also carry out appropriate care, which will help them to appear pleasant to themselves and others. And what woman or man does not want that?
