The interaction with other drugs

For the time being there are no known interactions between thyme and other drugs. However, care should be taken to ensure that thyme should not be taken with medications that relieve the irritation of the throat, as they have exactly the opposite effect and thus become ineffective.

The application forms

The application forms of thyme are very diverse and depend partly on the desired effect to be achieved. Besides the essential oils, there are also ointments, tinctures, already mixed solutions or even syrup. The essential oils can be used for inhalation with saline solution and thus have a direct effect on the respiratory tract.

They can also be added to the infusion in the sauna. Poured over with hot water, one can enjoy a tea made of thyme. Ointments are applied locally to the skin and unfold their effect in the superficial layer.

Tinctures or syrup can be packed in capsules, swallowed and thus develop their effect in the area of the gastrointestinal tract. Depending on the desired effect, the form of application should be chosen specifically. Thyme oil, or the essential oils of thyme, are obtained directly from the thyme in a multi-stage process.

Since only a small percentage of the thyme oil is contained in the thyme, a large amount of the plant is required for extraction. Thyme oil is very popular because it can be used in many different ways and has a good effect in practice. The essential oils can be used for inhalation, for example, mixed with saline solution and thus act directly in the area of the respiratory tract. They can also be added to the infusion in the sauna.

The dosage

The dosage of thyme varies greatly and must be changed from person to person. The dose depends, among other things, on the weight, the sex of the person being treated and the form of application. In general, a heavier person will need a higher dose than a lighter person. Since natural products sometimes do not have a constant amount of active ingredient in the preparations, additional care must be taken here. Since all this is very complex, it is best to ask the treating physician or specialist.
