The Price

Voltaren Dispers® are prescription tablets, which means that the tablets are only available in pharmacies on prescription from a doctor. With a private prescription, 30 tablets are available for about 15 euros. If the doctor prescribes the medication to a legally insured person, a co-payment is sometimes required. This is about half of the price from case to case.Co-payment-exempt are, for example, children and adolescents under 18 years of age or pregnant women who receive medication during pregnancy.

Is Voltaren Dispers® available over the counter?

Voltaren dispers® is available only on prescription and therefore cannot be purchased over the counter. An over-the-counter alternative with a similar active ingredient is a pain medication containing the active ingredient ibuprofen. However, both Voltaren dispers® and similar analgesics should only be taken on a doctor’s prescription and for a limited period of time.

Can I take Voltaren Dispers® at the same time as other medications?

Since Voltaren Dispers® may interact with other medications, the treating physician should be informed about the use of any other medication, even if it is over-the-counter. Voltaren Dispers® can increase blood levels of digoxin (to increase heart strength) or lithium (in depression), but it can also weaken the effect of antihypertensive and diuretic drugs. Interactions with blood-thinning medications and many other essential medicines are also known. How relevant these interactions are depends on various influences and the individual risk of the patient, which can be assessed by the doctor.

Voltaren Dispers® and alcohol

While taking Voltaren Dispers®, alcohol should not be drunk, as this may increase side effects. This is mainly because Voltaren Dispers® is broken down in the liver, just like alcohol. If large amounts of alcohol are consumed while taking Voltaren Dispers®, the liver can be damaged.

This liver damage can extend to inflammation of the liver (hepatitis) with jaundice (icterus). Side effects that affect the gastrointestinal tract or the central nervous system are also particularly common. For example, the simultaneous consumption of alcohol and Voltaren Dispers® can additionally irritate the stomach lining, resulting in nausea, vomiting, indigestion and even the formation of a stomach ulcer.

In the worst case, this can even lead to a rupture of the organ and internal bleeding. Common side effects such as headaches, dizziness or drowsiness are intensified by the consumption of alcohol. In general, alcohol should be avoided as far as possible while taking pain medication, regardless of the preparation in question.
