The symptoms in the child

Iron deficiency often occurs in children as well. Especially in the growth phase, when blood volume and muscle mass increase, children have an increased need for iron, which must be covered by a balanced diet (meat, beans, peas, spinach, apricots, etc. are particularly rich in iron).

In most cases, the symptoms of a child hardly differ from those of an adult. Children with iron deficiency are particularly prone to infections and show increased tiredness and paleness. Iron deficiency is also noticeable in children during meals: Many children suffer from a loss of appetite, with even their favorite dishes no longer tasting good.

At school, a learning and concentration weakness is often noticeable. Just like adults, children with a pronounced iron deficiency can also have cracked corners of the mouth and brittle hair and nails. In particularly severe iron deficiency situations, children can even suffer mental and physical growth and developmental disorders with a severe reduction in performance.
