Therapy

Adequate therapy is very important for diaper socks, especially if you want to avoid unnecessary pain for your baby by allowing the disease to spread. First of all it is important to pay attention to a sufficient hygiene. The baby or even the elderly patient should be changed as soon as possible after the diaper has been wet, so that the germs cannot feel comfortable in the wet environment.

In addition to a frequent change of diapers, it is also important to pay attention to appropriate hygiene when changing diapers. Parents or carers should always wash their hands and disinfect them if necessary. In addition, the buttocks should be cleaned and, if necessary, treated with a wound-healing supporting zinc ointment.

The baby or older patient should also be washed frequently, but it is very important that the buttocks are dried off afterwards and that no moisture is left behind, which is only a breeding ground for fungi again. Camomile baths are particularly suitable, as they soothe irritated and reddened skin and are therefore perceived as very pleasant. If the mother is still breastfeeding her baby, she can apply a few drops of breast milk to the inflamed skin areas.

Breast milk contains various antibodies which can help the child to fight the diaper smell faster and more effectively. It is important that a doctor determines where the diaper sores come from, as suitable ointments can be given in the case of fungal infections. In this case, antimycotic ointments are more suitable than ointments that re-grease the diaper, which are applied to the affected areas.

Pain relief and healing is also beneficial if you leave your bottom out in the fresh air for a few minutes after changing the diaper. On the one hand, this leads to a complete evaporation of the moisture and on the other hand, the fresh air can have a calming effect on the skin. If the skin is not open but only reddened, healing wool can also be used, as it also contains lanolin, which has an anti-inflammatory effect and also absorbs moisture better.

For the treatment of diaper sores, the treating pediatrician usually prescribes ointments that must be applied several times a day. In addition to zinc ointments, which care for and soothe the skin and alleviate the inflammatory processes, so-called antimycotics are also prescribed. These are substances that attack certain components of fungi and thus damage them and restrict their further reproduction.

Active ingredients such as miconazole or clotrimazole are often used in the form of ointments. The ointments are also available without prescription in pharmacies. In some cases, gentian violet is also used.

This is effective against the fungi and soothes the affected skin, but stains the skin very strongly and is now somewhat controversial due to possible toxic effects. Multilind® is a healing paste that is used in the therapy of diaper sores in children. It contains zinc and nystatin and is used specifically to combat Candida fungi.

The zinc has an anti-inflammatory effect and soothes irritated skin. The paste can be applied after each diaper changing, up to 5 times a day, to the sore and diseased skin areas. Within 24 – 72 hours there is a significant improvement in symptoms with relief of the tormenting itching.Overall, treatment should be continued until the affected skin areas are completely healed.
