Therapy

There are numerous causes for a tingling leg. Ultimately, it is usually caused by a nervous disorder. The first thing to do is to find out where the nerve disorder comes from.

If the nerve is only temporarily damaged by a wrong position, the symptoms disappear quickly after a change of position. In this case no specific treatment is necessary. However, if it is a bulging disc that presses on the nerve or parts of the spinal cord, the patient may even need surgery.

The nerve is only relieved by removing the bulging disc tissue. Sensitivity disorders in the leg are often the first signs of a disease of the central nervous system. If multiple sclerosis is the cause of the nerve disorder, it would be treated with cortisone.

If a stroke is suspected, the patient would be admitted to hospital immediately. A blood-thinning therapy would be started. If the diagnosis of restless legs syndrome is made as the cause of the symptoms, drug treatment with L-dopa is necessary.

Ultimately, there are no universally valid principles for the treatment of a tingling leg. It is important to find the cause and treat it accordingly. This topic might also be of interest to you:

Duration

Mostly, leg tingling is a temporary sensation that disappears after a certain time. Actually, the nerve indicates to us through the tingling sensation that it is in an awkward position and wants to be released. In most cases the nerve is damaged by mechanical pressure. If you change its position, the problem is usually solved. However, if the pressure is not removed from the nerve, a numbness develops in the leg.

Forecast

The prognosis of tingling legs depends on their cause and therefore varies greatly. In most cases, leg tingling is a harmless nervous disorder that disappears of its own accord after a short period of time. However, if the nerve disorder is a symptom of a slipped disc or multiple sclerosis, the prognosis is significantly different.

Restless legs syndrome can also cause tingling legs. The disease can be treated well, but is not curable.
