Therapy | Pain during urination in women

Therapy

Depending on the cause that causes the woman’s pain when she urinates, there are different methods of treatment. If the frequent cystitis is present, the treatment of the inflamed bladder consists of physical rest in the form of bed rest. It is also important that the patient drinks a lot of water or tea, with the ulterior motive that if she drinks about three to four liters, she must urinate so often that the bacteria are flushed out of the bladder.

Often these measures are already sufficient. However, if the symptoms do not improve after about three days or if the condition even worsens, an antibiotic should be taken. Once the bladder infection has subsided, a urine check is also recommended to confirm that no more bacteria are present in the urine.

If there is a sexually transmitted disease, it is treated with different antibiotics depending on the pathogen that causes it. If the symptoms of urination are due to an undesired drug effect, the triggering medication should be discontinued or switched to other drugs with the same effect after consulting the doctor. In the case of an irritable bladder, the therapy is limited to bladder retraining or to medication to alleviate the urge to urinate, since no known cause is known for this problem that could be treated.

If there is a tumor that causes pain when urinating, the treatment depends on its stage and can take the form of surgery, chemotherapy or radiation (radiotherapy). If the pain during urination is the result of radiation, the therapy is rather difficult, because the cause is usually not treatable. The therapy concept is thus limited to alleviating the symptoms, which can be achieved with the help of painkillers or antispasmodic drugs, for example.

If you experience pain while urinating and there are no accompanying symptoms, you can try to control the pain with home remedies, bed rest, and a sufficient amount of at least three liters per day. However, if there is no improvement after about three days or if symptoms such as fever or blood in the urine occur, you should immediately consult your family doctor, who will then initiate further diagnostic and therapeutic measures. Since pain when urinating is most likely to be associated with a bladder infection, one can try to cure it with home remedies.

It is very important that the affected person drinks enough. At least three liters of water or tea should be drunk. As a result, one often has the urge to urinate and excretes with the urine the bacteria that cause the inflammation in the bladder. There are also special types of tea that promise a diuretic effect as bladder or kidney tea and can therefore be drunk if it hurts when urinating.

In the herbal medicine known hard rubbing agents, which are also present in these teas, are for example dandelion, goldenrod, nettle or birch leaves and are available in the pharmacy. Bearberry leaf extract is also a naturopathic remedy for cystitis. The juice from cranberries is also known as a home remedy against cystitis.

You can drink 300 ml of this juice daily for treatment, but also for prevention of cystitis. Just as important as a sufficient drinking quantity is physical protection. This is best done in the form of bed rest. A hot-water bottle can be used as a support, which can relieve the pain by relaxing the muscles surrounding the bladder through the heat.
