Therapy | Pulling in the hollow of the knee – Is that dangerous?

Therapy

Knee joint complaints such as a pulling in the hollow of the knee are treated depending on the cause of the symptoms. A Baker’s cyst does not always need to be treated, but the underlying disease should be treated. An indication for the treatment of a Baker’s cyst exists if the cyst causes symptoms.

In this case, medicinal, minimally invasive and surgical methods are used. For injuries of the knee joint, such as meniscus damage or ligament injuries, conservative and surgical treatment options are considered, depending on the individual situation. Both a twisted knee and a pulled muscle, for example a pulled calf, are treated conservatively, typically according to the PECH scheme.

The PECH scheme stands for rest, ice, compression and elevation of the affected leg. Deep vein thrombosis is usually treated with blood-thinning medication and appropriate positioning, compression therapy. Drug-induced thrombolysis or surgery to remove the clot (thrombus) are weighed individually.

Cooling helps with acute knee injuries, e.g. exposure to cold inhibits messenger substances that cause the inflammatory symptoms. In acute injuries, cold also helps to keep the swelling under control. At the same time, haematomas typically turn out smaller if the tissue is cooled regularly.

In addition, heat can also be useful, but more likely in chronic diseases. If chronic knee diseases are present, such as osteoarthritis or chronic knee inflammation, heat therapy can have a positive effect on the healing process. Fango applications are very well suited for application to the affected knee.

Heat promotes blood circulation and favors the removal of metabolic waste products.

  • Knee twist,
  • Strained muscles,
  • Sports injuries to the joint, in which ligaments or the menisci are injured,
  • As well as for inflammations.

A knee bandage is used to stabilize and relieve the knee in one position. In the case of a condition following ligament injuries or meniscus damage, a bandage can help to relieve the load on the knee so that it can heal.

There are also knee bandages that have anatomical pads around the kneecap to relieve pain. Knee bandages may be indicated for various diseases of the knee joint. Whether an indication exists should be discussed with the treating physician.
