Therapy

The treatment of red spots on the abdomen depends on its causes. In the case of viral diseases, which are more common in children, usually only drugs that improve the symptoms can help. These include anti-inflammatory and antipyretic drugs. In some cases, therapy with an antiviral agent can also be useful and successful.

Bacterial infections are in most cases treated with a suitable antibiotic, after a rapid improvement is often seen. If the red spots on the stomach are accompanied by a strong and unpleasant itching, you should try not to scratch. The itching can be alleviated by regularly applying cooling and soothing ointments.

Cooling compresses or ice packs can also alleviate the symptoms. It is important that the scratching of purulent pustules or any fluid-filled blisters is prevented, so that no bacteria can penetrate the skin through the resulting opening. Otherwise there is a risk of developing an inflammation, which in the worst case can develop into a superinfection.

If the rash is due to an allergic reaction of the skin, the first thing to do is to find out the allergen and remove it immediately. In many cases, the symptoms then improve rapidly. If the cause is not known, it must be clarified by a doctor.

Afterwards the appropriate treatment can be initiated. In many cases, the treating physician prescribes an ointment containing cortisone or an antihistamine which can be taken orally. Autoimmune diseases and especially neurodermatitis are also treated with cortisone. Further possibilities to treat neurodermatitis are the administration of anti-inflammatory drugs, vitamin E and alternative medicine such as light therapy.
