Therapy | Sick Sinus Syndrome

Therapy

A therapy of the sick sinus syndrome is only necessary if there are symptoms of bradycardia (very slow heartbeat) such as Adam Stokes fits (fainting fits). If this is the case, the method of choice is pacemaker therapy. Here, mainly atrial systems (AAI, DDD) are used. If there is a suspicion that drugs taken are responsible for the slowing of the frequency, they should first be discontinued. In tachycardiabradycardia syndrome, antiarrhythmic medication is used in addition to pacemaker therapy.

Prognosis

The prognosis is good. If drugs are the reason for the disease, life expectancy is not reduced. Otherwise, the underlying disease determines life expectancy.
