ThermaCare®

Definition and active ingredient

ThermaCare® pain gel contains the active ingredient Felbinac. The drug Felbinac belongs to the group of analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs, the so-called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The ThermaCare® heat plasters can also be used for external application for pain. They contain a mixture of different ingredients that produce heat through oxidation with the ambient air and are thus intended to reduce pain through direct contact with the skin.

General information, pharmaceutical form and dosage

ThermaCare® Heat Patch as well as ThermaCare® Pain Gel are for external application in case of pain. Both dosage forms are available without prescription. However, the pain gel is only available in pharmacies.

Some ThermaCare® heat patches are also available in drugstores. The heat patches are to be applied to the affected parts of the body and take effect after about 30 minutes by warming up to 40 degrees Celsius, thus causing an increase in temperature in the deeper tissue layers and thus relaxation of the muscles. These mechanisms should then lead to pain relief.

The heat development lasts up to 8 hours. For effective pain relief with ThermaCare®, the patch should be worn for at least 3 hours without interruption. The patches can be worn comfortably under clothing.

There are different shapes and sizes of patches depending on the parts of the body where you feel the pain. Patches are available for back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain and abdominal pain during menstruation. ThermaCare® Pain Gel is a transparent, clear gel that can be purchased in tubes of 50 and 100 grams at the pharmacy.

It is used in the context of injuries such as strains, sprains or even bruises. Furthermore, it can be used for wear and tear diseases such as arthrosis or soft tissue rheumatic diseases. Three different phases of action are attributed to the pain gel.

It is said to have a cooling, painkilling and anti-inflammatory effect. ThermaCare® Pain Gel should be applied to the affected area and gently massaged in. It should only be applied to uninjured skin.

The pain gel should not come into contact with the eyes or mucous membranes. If contact with the eyes does occur, the eyes should be rinsed generously with water. A maximum dose of ThermaCare® Pain Gel per day should not exceed 20 grams. The ThermaCare® heat pads for menstrual pain should not be applied directly to the skin, but instead be stuck to the inside of the underpants.
