These are the accompanying symptoms

The eye twitching is usually only noticed by the affected person himself, whereas the movements of the eyelid are not or very difficult to detect for other people. Typically, there are rapid, small movements in which the eyelid is not completely closed, but only “flutters”. The twitching repeats a few times, then disappears again and reappears after some time.

This process can be repeated for several hours or even over a longer period of time. Occasional eye twitching has no disease value and need not necessarily be accompanied by other symptoms. Depending on the cause, however, further symptoms may occur: Heart palpitations and increased blood pressure can also be caused by stress and may occur with eye twitches.

In the case of neurological diseases, there may be various disease-specific symptoms in addition to eye flutter.

  • Tiredness,
  • Headache,
  • Vertigo,
  • Anxiety states or
  • Nervousness

The twitching of an eyelid is often accompanied by headaches. In most cases, both complaints are harmless and are due to an increased stress level.

Overexertion of the eyes, exhaustion or tiredness can also be reasons for eye twitching and headaches. A migraine attack or deficiency symptoms (e.g. a lack of iron, vitamin B12 or magnesium) can also cause such complaints. In rare cases, severe diseases are behind these symptoms.

For example, a brain tumor often causes unilateral headaches accompanied by a twitching eye. Inflammations in the brain caused by an infection can also cause headaches and eye twitching. In the case of severe pain that lasts for more than two days and is accompanied by a twitching eye, a medical clarification of the symptoms should be carried out.
