This belongs in the crib

For a restful and safe sleep, the baby or toddler does not need many things in its crib. A suitable mattress belongs in the baby bed, no matter if it is a cradle, bassinet or crib. The mattress should fit into the bed and not slip around, so that the baby cannot slip between the bed and the mattress.

A removable cover on the mattress saves a waterproof carpet pad. A suitable fitted sheet belongs over the mattress. The ends of the sheet should be stowed well under the mattress so that the baby cannot pull the sheet into his face.

It is recommended to use a sleeping bag instead of a blanket for the baby. This prevents the baby from slipping under the blanket unnoticed. The risk of heat accumulation and suffocation is higher with a blanket than with a sleeping bag.

Babies often feel lost in a crib when they are very small. A sky over the bed or a nest can counteract this. However, it is important to make sure that the canopy and nest are well secured and cannot be detached from the baby.

This must NOT be put in the baby bed

In order for the baby to sleep safely and sometimes unattended in its own bed, a few things should be considered. Apart from a mattress, cover and sleeping bag, there should be nothing in a crib. Especially toys and small parts should be taken out of the bed while sleeping.

Because there is the danger that babies and toddlers can put them in their mouth and choke on them. In general, children with small toys should not be left unattended. Furthermore, there should be no cuddly toys, music boxes, loose cloths (including spitting cloths) or additional soft, fluffy blankets in the baby bed.The child could pull these in front of his face while sleeping and not get any air. It is also not necessary to put a pillow, fur or another blanket underneath. This can also cause a heat accumulation.
