Thuja against Warts

Products

Thuja is commercially available as tincture, homeopathic mother tincture, essence (Wala), ointment (Weleda), in the form of globules, dilutions, lozenges and solutions, among others. The drugs are available from various manufacturers of alternative medicines. Some pharmacies also produce Thuja wart remedies as a house specialty.

Medicinal drug

  • Thujae summitates – Thuja shoot tips, tree of life tips, the fresh, leafy, annual branches of (HAB 1).
  • Thujae occidentalis herba – Thuja herb.

Ingredients

Essential oil, e.g. thujone (Thuja aetheroleum), polysaccharides, minerals, coumarins, flavonoids.

Fields of application

Thuja is a popular alternative medicine remedy for warts. It should be noted that in many countries, the corresponding remedies have not yet been approved by the authorities for this indication, and some require a prescription. According to alternative medicine, Thuja is also used for burns, sunburn, allergic skin diseases, abrasions, digestive disorders and inflammatory conditions. In folk medicine Thuja was used for example for rheumatic complaints. In many countries it is commercially available in combinations with other plants for the treatment of colds and susceptibility to colds (Esberitop, Germany: Esberitox).

Dosage

Warts: The tincture or ointment is applied topically externally to the warts 1 to 2 times daily. Healthy skin should be protected with a patch or ointment. Thuja preparations can also be taken against warts, but usually only homeopathically potentized (e.g. in the form of globules, D6). The mother tinctures should not be taken.

Contraindications

Thuja mother tincture should not be used in hypersensitivity, during pregnancy and lactation, and in young children. It should not be applied to open wounds, on mucous membranes or on the face and should not get into the eyes. Not all medicines are suitable for ingestion. The herb should not be ingested. Other precautions according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Adverse effects

The essential oil is a strong irritant. Severe reactions and poisoning are possible when fresh twigs are ingested, such as gastrointestinal discomfort, central cramps, abdominal pain, headache, degenerative changes in the liver, kidney damage, and gastric mucosal hemorrhage.
