Thyroid gland | Causes of tachycardia

Thyroid gland

Another conceivable reason is an overactive thyroid gland. In order to understand this, one must know that the thyroid gland is an organ that releases messenger substances (triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4)) on command of the brain. These cause a general increase in our metabolic performance, they also increase our heartbeat.

In the case of hyperactivity, the thyroid gland becomes independent and releases more messenger substances than the body signals to it. This can be diagnosed by a simple blood test. If you sweat a lot in everyday life without any apparent reason, if your heart beats faster or if you are more prone to nervousness and diarrhea, you could suffer from hyperthyroidism.

Tachycardia after alcohol

Alcohol consumption can also cause heart palpitations. Red wine in particular has a dilating effect on our vascular system in the terminal arteries. (This is also the reason why alcoholics are often depicted with the characteristic red nose or red face).

If you imagine the body with all its vessels as a closed system of pipes, with the heart as a pump, you can understand that when the vessels dilate, the total pressure of the system decreases. This puts the heart on alert, since it is essential that our body is supplied with a certain pressure at all times to maintain its oxygen supply. In order to counteract the pressure drop in the system, the heart increases its beat rate in order to ensure a constant pressure. This is the reason for an increased heart rate after alcohol consumption.

Tachycardia and nausea

In addition to dizziness, a feeling of pressure on the chest, nausea can also occur as one of the accompanying symptoms of tachycardia. Many people suffer from benign tachycardia. It occurs independently of certain situations, mostly in physical rest.

The attacks happen suddenly and disappear as well. Nausea and palpitations can also occur in conjunction with a panic attack. The benign tachycardia should be clarified by a physician, as it can affect different areas of life. If nausea and tachycardia occur together for the first time, a heart attack should be ruled out.
