Structure and properties
Tobramycin (C18H37N5O9, Mr = 467.51 g/mol) exists as a white powder that is readily soluble in water. It is obtained from or can be prepared by other methods.
Effects
Tobramycin (ATC J01GB01) has bacericidal properties. The effects are due to inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S subunit of ribosomes. Tobramycin is effective against Gram-negative pathogens such as.
Indications
For treatment of chronic infection of the lung with in patients with cystic fibrosis.
Dosage
According to the SmPC. The drug is administered by inhalation.
Contraindications
Tobramycin is contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity. For complete precautions, see the drug label.
Interactions
Drug-drug interactions are possible with neuro-, nephro-, or ototoxic agents and with diuretics.
Adverse effects
The most common possible adverse effects include voice disturbance and tinnitus.
