Tooth powder

Besides toothpaste in the smooth paste form, there is also tooth powder in granular form. The composition of these granules differs significantly from the pastes. The application on the toothbrush is not very easy, because some of the granules go wrong.

Toothpastes for children

For children the toothpastes for adults are too sharp. They prefer pastes that are sweet. Of course, the sweetness is not achieved with sugar, that is why all children’s toothpastes are sugar-free.

The sweetness is achieved with sugar substitutes or sugar substitutes. Since children often receive fluoride prophylaxis, the fluoride concentration in children’s toothpastes is reduced. Tubes are used almost exclusively as toothpaste containers.

They used to be made of tin and became quite unsightly after use. Today, so-called laminate tubes are used, which consist of two layers of plastic with a metal layer in between. These tubes have the advantage that they always recede after use and can be stored in an upright position thanks to their large screw cap.

A two-chamber system is used for toothpastes with differently colored strips. Besides the tubes, there are also toothpaste dispensers. With these somewhat more elaborate containers, the toothpaste is released by pressing a small lever. All toothpaste packaging must contain a list of the ingredients.

Application

Toothpastes are used in conjunction with the toothbrush to clean the teeth. At the same time, they bring active substances for caries prevention and gum care into the oral cavity. The rule of thumb is that teeth should be brushed 3 times a day. The duration of the brushing process should be 3 minutes, but this is rarely observed.

Can you make toothpaste yourself?

There are many ways to make toothpaste yourself. Especially, because many customers believe that industrial production causes plastic to get into the toothpaste. There are also many additives in the contents.

However, this fact is not very serious, because the toothpaste is spat out after brushing the teeth and the mouth is rinsed with water. However, spitting out is not yet a matter of course for children. The ingredients for a homemade toothpaste can be chosen freely depending on the desired effect: coconut oil, for example, serves as the basis.

The oil binds bacteria and works against gum inflammation and caries. The myth that the oil makes the teeth white, however, is not true. Moreover, homemade toothpaste contains sodium bicarbonate to bind harmful substances.

The advantage of baking soda is that it has a pH value above the neutral range. The acidic environment in the mouth after eating is therefore antagonized and the neutral range is maintained. To make the toothpaste sweeter, you should use xylitol instead of stevia, a birch toucher is sweet but not cariogenic.

It cannot be used by the bacteria. On the contrary: it absorbs the bacteria that die from it. To make the toothpaste even tastier, you should use oils like peppermint oil or fennel oil.

The oil itself is partly already antibacterial. For the remineralization of the enamel, the body needs fluorine, calcium and phosphorus on the spot. These minerals are not or very little concentrated in a homemade toothpaste. The risk of tooth decay increases. For this reason, intensive research is being conducted into which ingredients a conventional toothpaste should contain.
