Tracheitis: Symptoms, Complaints, Signs

The following symptoms and complaints may indicate tracheitis (tracheitis):

Main symptoms

  • Pain on inhalation/burning sensation retrosternally (behind the sternum).
  • Hoarseness
  • Cough
  • Stridor (whistling breathing sound)
  • Occasional dyspnea (shortness of breath)
  • Feeling of dryness
  • Formation of viscous purulent secretion (in children with severe edematous swelling of the mucous membrane).

Secondary symptoms

  • General feeling of illness
  • Fever
