Transient Ischemic Attack: Test and Diagnosis

1st-order laboratory parameters-obligatory laboratory tests.

Laboratory parameters 2nd order – depending on the results of the history, physical examination, etc. – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Atherosclerosis parameters
    • Total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol.
    • Triglycerides
    • Homocysteine
    • Lipoprotein (a) – lipoprotein electrophoresis if necessary.
    • Apolipoprotein E – genotype 4 (ApoE4)
    • Fibrinogen
  • Liver parameters – alanine aminotransferase (ALT, GPT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST, GOT), glutamate dehydrogenase (GLDH) and gamma-glutamyl transferase (gamma-GT, GGT).
  • Renal parameters – urea, creatinine, cystatin C or creatinine clearance, as appropriate.
  • Troponins (CK) – for specific detection of myocardial damage.
  • CSF puncture (collection of cerebrospinal fluid by puncture of the spinal canal) for CSF diagnosis – in the case of inconspicuous computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
