Treatment

Depending on the cause of the underlying cervical pain, there are different treatment options:

  • If, for example, pain is experienced after a gynecological examination or an operation, physical rest and relaxation can provide relief.
  • In case of inflammatory changes, antibiotic treatment may be necessary, which takes several days. During this period, light painkillers can be supportive.
  • If the pain occurs during intercourse, it is recommended to try different positions to make the act more comfortable for both partners. It may also help to try if at another time the intercourse is less painful due to the cyclical changes in the consistency of the cervix.
  • During pregnancy, pain in the area of the cervix should always be clarified by a doctor in order to detect a possible cervical weakness at an early stage.

Duration

The duration of cervical pain is very individual and varies. Above all, the cause of the pain plays a decisive role. In the case of an inflammatory process, for example, the pain can last for several days despite antibiotic treatment.

In the case of pain, which is dependent on sexual intercourse, the pain usually lasts only for the period of the act itself or slightly longer. In the case of long-lasting, unclear symptoms, a gynecologist should always be consulted. In addition, increased caution is required for complaints during pregnancy.
