Treatment for deafness of the ear

The treatment of deafness in the ear depends on the cause. If multiple sclerosis is known to exist, the symptoms of numbness in the ear can be alleviated by administering cortisone. Even if the doctor has identified another disease as the trigger for the numbness in the ear, the therapy is primarily based on the underlying disease, such as stroke, cold or middle ear infection or migraine and shingles.

This can then be removed by microsurgery or radiation. In the treatment of subjective tinnitus, we distinguish between those with a recognizable cause and those without one. If the cause is based on diseases of the auditory canal or middle ear, surgical intervention can be helpful here as well.

In case of disorders of the spine or temporomandibular joint, physiotherapeutic or dental treatment is recommended. In the case of a systemic disease, such as high blood pressure, thyroid dysfunction or neurological disorders, drug therapy can be attempted. If the cause is unclear, the tinnitus should be treated like a hearing loss, i.e. with cortisone therapy.

How long does the numbness in the ear last?

Since there are many different causes for the numbness, it is not possible to make a blanket statement about the duration. Once the doctor has made the diagnosis, he usually explains the duration of the symptoms and when an improvement can be expected. In the case of otitis media, the symptoms often improve spontaneously within the first 24 hours.

Otherwise, the inflammation of the middle ear typically lasts about a week. The cold also lasts between one week and 10 days. Shingles can last for 2-4 weeks.

The sensitivity disorder only becomes apparent after the initial stage, i.e. the duration is shortened. A migraine attack usually does not last longer than 3 days, so the numbness should disappear after this time. In the case of a stroke, the duration of the symptoms depends on the patient’s basic condition and the affected area of the brain.

However, permanent damage may occur. Very often the tinnitus lasts only two to three days. If this is not the case, therapy must be initiated and the symptoms may disappear within the next three months. If the tinnitus lasts longer, then it has taken on a chronic form.
