Treatment of the disease only with homeopathy or only as supportive therapy?

Fever is a symptom of the body that expresses that the immune system is activated and working. Slight fever can be treated with homeopathic medication, if bed rest and an adequate therapy of the other symptoms is provided. This means, for example, fighting a pathogen in a flu-like infection. However, if a high fever occurs and/or persists for several days, a doctor should be consulted urgently. In this case, the homeopathic remedies should only be used in a supportive manner in accordance with the medically prescribed treatment.

Lower fever in children

In children one speaks of fever only when the body temperature is above 38.5°C. However, babies under the age of three months are excluded from this. It is important that an accurate temperature measurement is taken, whereby the rectal method can provide the best value.

Simple measures to reduce acute fever are the use of calf compresses or washcloths on the child’s forehead. Care should be taken to keep the temperature lukewarm so that the child does not cool down. The temperature should be taken at least three times a day. In addition, care must be taken to ensure that the child drinks enough to prevent loss of fluid.

When do I have to go to the doctor?

Fever can occur, especially in children, in the context of influenza or colds. If it is a slight fever, i.e. a slight increase to just over 38°C body temperature, a doctor does not need to be consulted immediately. However, if the fever lasts for three days, a medical examination should be performed. If the fever is acutely severe with a higher increase in body temperature, and if there are accompanying symptoms such as severe pain, a visit to a doctor should be made earlier.

Other alternative forms of therapy

Herbal medicine and various essential oils are also considered to be possible alternative forms of therapy. Another proven old remedy for lowering fever is the so-called vinegar socks. Two pairs of socks are needed for this.

One should ideally be made of linen, the other of wool. It is recommended to wear the socks twice a day for about half an hour. The wool socks are pulled over the linen socks to protect the body from possible cooling.

  • These include rosewood, for example, which has a calming effect and can reduce the body’s stress reaction in the context of a feverish infection.
  • Sage also works well in cases of excessive physical sweating, which can also help to reduce fever.
  • Tea tree oil has an anti-inflammatory effect and thus lowers fever with colds.
  • A mixture of lemon and eucalyptus is also well suited because of its invigorating active components and the regulation of the immune system.
  • The wool socks should be longer than the linen ones. For the vinegar socks cold water is mixed with a tablespoon of vinegar.
  • Soak the linen socks briefly in it and then wring them out well.
