Treatment/Therapy for at home

The healing process after the insertion of a Hip-Tep can last from months to a year and requires patience as well as an exercise program which should be done regularly to continuously improve the function of the hip. Regular exercise is important in the healing process and in the restoration of hip function.

  • Suitable sports for a hip tep are swimming, walking or weight training at home or in the gym.
  • Exercises to strengthen the legs are activities like climbing stairs or running.

When running, you should concentrate on a straight posture and make sure that both legs are equally loaded and that the leg with the hip tep is not too heavily relieved.

  • In general, a healthy lifestyle should be taken into account. I.e. a balanced diet, avoiding or reducing smoking and alcohol, minimizing psychological stress, etc.

In the aftercare of a hip tep it is important to train the leg at home.

For this purpose a Theraband is suitable, which can increase exercises. Therabands are available in different colors, which are not unimportant. The color indicates the strength of the Theraband.

With most manufacturers a red theraband has the lowest strength. Take the lightest strength first – then you can increase if necessary. You can find more exercises under: Physiotherapy hip TEP, hip TEP exercises, exercises from physiotherapy for the hip

  • To train the outer muscles of the leg and hip, the Theraband can be tied around the thigh, just above the knees.

It is important that the legs are always about hip-wide apart. Then the person can lie on his back and stretch his legs. First one leg is moved outwards until the Theraband is stretched to the maximum.

Then this leg is returned and the other leg is moved outwards. The exercise can be done in 20 repetitions for 3-4 rounds.

  • For the rear leg and hip muscles, the person can lie down again and lay the Theraband across the pelvis. Both Theraband halves are fixed with the hands on the pad and the arms remain stretched out. Then both legs are positioned hip-wide and the pelvis is lifted.

The Theraband is tensed and the arms stay down. The pelvis is lifted up until the buttocks are tensed to the maximum. Then the person can stay in this position for 20-30 seconds. This exercise can be performed in 3-4 series. It is important here to keep the legs always a little bit apart and not too close together.
