Tremor: Diagnostic Tests

Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the history, physical examination, and obligatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Electromyography (EMG; measurement of electrical muscle activity) – to rule out asterixis (flutter tremor, i.e., coarse tremor of the hands, which occurs mainly in toxic or metabolic (metabolic) encephalopathies (brain damage))
  • Computed tomography/magnetic resonance imaging of the skull (cranial CT or.cCT/cranial MRI or cMRI)/spine – if neurological cause is suspected.
  • DaTSCAN scintigraphy (also called brain scintigraphy) is a nuclear medicine examination method for imaging special neurotransmitter transporters in the brain – in essential tremorDaTSCAN scintigraphy is a very reliable diagnostic procedure to make an early diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.
