Trigger

The triggers of sacroiliitis have not been clearly clarified and are still the subject of current research. In most cases, the inflammation of the joint between sacrum and ilium occurs in the context of a rheumatic disease such as ankylosing spondylitis or a chronic inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease. There is an increased risk for the outbreak of sacroiliitis in certain genetic, i.e. inherited, predispositions.

This does not necessarily mean that another family member is affected. Occasionally, however, there is a familial accumulation of diseases from the aforementioned group of forms.
