Tumors of the head and neck

Tongue cancer describes a malignant, rare tumor that originates from the tongue. An influence of tobacco smoking and excessive alcohol consumption has been proven. Parotid gland cancer is usually a benign ulcer of the salivary gland in front of the ear.

There is a strong, often painful swelling in this area. Throat cancer is also associated with cigarette smoke and alcohol consumption. An infection with HP viruses can also be a trigger for this form of cancer.

Since the cancer only leads to symptoms late and has usually already metastasized, the prognosis is usually poor. Throat cancer is usually diagnosed late and is therefore difficult to treat. It is usually noticed by hoarseness or a lump feeling in the throat.

Cancer of the vocal folds is a malignant tumor disease of the vocal folds. One of the main signs of the disease is hoarseness. Since vocal fold cancer has a relatively good prognosis, a cure can be achieved by early detection.

Esophageal cancer is a malignant tumor that originates from the cells of the esophageal mucosa. In 80-90% of cases, there is a connection between years of consumption of high-proof alcohol and the consumption of cigarettes. The tumor causes symptoms only late, when it is already well advanced.

Due to the late diagnosis, this type of cancer has a very poor prognosis for patients. Tracheal cancer is a rare form of cancer which, like most cancers of the mouth, is caused by tobacco smoking. Tracheal cancer leads to symptoms such as chronic coughing with bloody sputum and shortness of breath only in the later stages.

There are different forms of thyroid cancer. The prognosis depends on the type. Common to all are the typical symptoms such as swelling in the area of the thyroid gland, hoarseness and coughing. Therapeutically, a complete removal of the thyroid gland is usually performed.
