Typhoid Abdominalis: Prevention

Typhoid vaccination is the most important and effective preventive measure (protection rate 50-70% in persons >3 years of age).

To prevent typhoid abdominalis, attention must be paid to reducing risk factors.

Behavioral risk factors

  • Diet – consumption of raw, contaminated food and beverages.

Other risk factors

  • Warm season (high outdoor temperatures)

Abroad, as far as hygiene standards are not met, the following rules should be followed:

  • On raw or not sufficiently heated food such as salads, seafood, unpeeled fruit or juices best to avoid completely.
  • Boil water before drinking or drinking water should always be purchased bottled.
  • Refrain from fruit juices and ice cubes.
  • Drink only from original sealed bottles.
