U 8 | Preventive examination for children

U 8

At the age of 43 to 48 months of age, the U8 is a four-year examination. The child’s age-appropriate behavior is determined: Is he or she dry or wet and still oozing, does he or she have massive defiant reactions, can he or she play with concentration, does he or she have speech disorders (stammering, stammering, rumbling), does he or she have strong defiant reactions and outbursts of anger, does he or she play with other children and can he or she integrate into a group while playing? The children’s eyesight is tested, either with a visual aid or with visual charts showing objects and symbols of different sizes that are easily identifiable for children, so that the child’s visual acuity can be determined.

A hearing test is also performed. The subsequent physical examination serves in particular to assess the child’s muscle tension, to detect coordination disorders or tremor. A urine examination is routinely performed to rule out a urinary tract infection.

U 9

The U9 is the pre-school examination, which is performed at the age of 5 and is intended to detect possible abnormalities in the child that can be corrected or improved before the child starts school. The children’s eyesight and hearing are checked and their motor skills are assessed:The children must jump, run and jump on one leg. Furthermore, the muscular strength, posture and fine motor skills of the child are assessed (see also Coordination skills).

The coordination between hand and eyes is assessed by drawing simple symbols (e.g. a circle or a rectangle). The child’s language skills are tested by naming specific illustrations. The doctor can make the child count to 10 and ask the child about its spatial orientation, such as where it is and how it got to the doctor.

Youth health consultation

The so-called J1 is the youth health consultation with 13 to 14 years. The doctor will perform a thorough physical examination of the adolescent to assess the development of puberty. In addition, the adolescents are asked about chronic illnesses, disabilities or limitations, school development, family situation and psychological problems. The doctor obtains information about the adolescent’s diet and personal hygiene, his social contacts with friends, his range of movement and sporting activities and his sex life.

In addition, the topics of alcohol and nicotine are addressed, for which the doctor gives the young person appropriate advice. The examination and taking of the medical history (= anamnesis) can take place in the absence of the parents, if the adolescent wishes so. as well as U12 examination – You should know that!
