Unat®

The preparation Unat® contains the active ingredient torasemide. This active ingredient falls into the substance class of loop diuretics, which are very effective diuretic drugs. Loop diuretics achieve their effect by inhibiting transport mechanisms for electrolytes to be reabsorbed into the kidneys, which then lead to a larger volume of urine being excreted. In summary, the preparation Unat increases urine excretion and lowers blood pressure.

Revenue

Unat® is usually taken in tablet form in the morning and contains from 2.5 to 200mg of the active ingredient torasemide. Since these are prescription drugs, the doctor determines which amount of active ingredient is most appropriate for individual treatment.

Fields of application

The drug Unat® can be used for a wide range of diseases. Unat® generally serves to eliminate unnecessary accumulations of water in the body, a principle that can be used for a wide range of underlying diseases. Unat® is often used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), as well as to treat and prevent fluid accumulation in the tissues (edema) and body cavities (effusions), which often occur due to heart muscle weakness. Furthermore, Unat® is used in cases of severely impaired kidney function when fluid is already accumulating in the tissue. Another area of application for the drug Unat® is in cases of poisoning, as the increased excretion of water also flushes out the toxins.

Side effects

Due to the increased loss of fluid, the blood can thicken, so it is important to ensure that one takes in or drinks enough fluid through food. In addition, salts such as sodium, potassium and chloride are excreted, which should therefore also be taken in sufficient quantities with food. In addition, the excretion of calcium and magnesium is also increased.

Side effects include circulation problems, headaches, thirst, vomiting and diarrhoea, low blood pressure and fatigue. Because of these side effects, Unat® tablets should not be used in patients suffering from gout. Furthermore, therapy with Unat® can lead to an aggravation of excitatory and conduction disorders of the heart, which is why treatment with Unat® should be avoided even in such clinical pictures. Furthermore, patients with severe liver and kidney dysfunction are also not suitable for therapy with Unat®, as Unat® contains substances that are harmful to both organs.
