Introduction
The upper arm spoke muscle (Musculus brachioradialis) is another strong flexor of the elbow joint. With its strong, slender muscle belly, it runs along the middle of the forearm. The upper arm spoke muscle forms the predominant part of the forearm muscles located towards the thumb. It represents the anatomical boundary between flexor and extensor of the forearm.
Approach/origin/innervation
Base: Stylus process of the radius (Processus styloideus radii) Origin: Lateral edge of the humerus (Margo lateralis humeri) Innervation: Radial nerve (N. radialis)
Function
The upper arm spoke muscle (Musculus brachioradialis) has a long lever arm and is therefore a so-called load flexor of the elbow joint. If the other upper arm flexors take on the function of speed flexors, the brachioradialis fulfills the function of carrying loads when the arm is pronated.
