To prevent vertigo (dizziness), attention must be paid to reducing individual risk factors.

Behavioral risk factors

  • Consumption of stimulants
    • Alcohol
    • Tobacco (passive smoking)
  • Drug use
  • Psycho-social situation
    • Stress
  • Incorrectly adjusted glasses
  • Hyperventilation – accelerated breathing (too fast/or too deep).
  • Rapid spinning
  • Unusual head movements
  • Unaccustomed head or neck positions

Environmental stresses – intoxications (poisonings).

  • Carbon monoxide
  • Carbon tetrachloride
  • Mercury
