Vertigo in children
Dizziness is also not uncommon in children. It is estimated that about 15% of school children in Germany have already experienced an episode of dizziness. As a rule, the causes of vertigo in children have a rather benign course.
Very common are migraine-associated vertigo attacks in children. They account for about 50% of the children’s diseases. The frequency is therefore quite different from that of adults.
The following is a brief overview of the common causes of dizziness attacks in children. In benign paroxymal dizziness, small crystals in the organ of equilibrium cause inadequate irritation, which causes the dizziness. Short dizziness attacks of about 30 seconds occur when the head is moved.
Even though the disease may regress spontaneously after weeks or months, therapy should be started. Positioning exercises and relaxation techniques can help. In addition, migraine prophylaxis can be carried out if the course of the disease is very severe.
