Visual Impairment: Diagnostic Tests

Obligatory medical device diagnostics.

  • Ophthalmoscopy – to view the fundus (back of the eye), especially examination of the retina (retina), optic papilla (optic nerve papilla) and blood vessels supplying them (central retinal artery with its branches).
  • Vision test – examination and determination of visual acuity or so-called visual acuity.
  • Tonometry (intraocular pressure measurement)
  • Perimetry (visual field measurement)

Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the medical history, physical examination, laboratory diagnostics and mandatory medical device diagnostics – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Sonography (ultrasound) of the eye(s).
  • Conventional radiographs of the skull
  • Computed tomography of the skull (cranial CT; cranial CT) – for further diagnostics; in case of suspected neoplasms.
