Risk groups for vitamin A deficiency include individuals with:
- An extreme unbalanced diet or who practice certain diets.
- Maldigestion or malabsorption (in Crohn’s disease and celiac disease or indigenous sprue, respectively, ileojejunal bypass, pancreatic diseases, parenteral nutrition, chronic high alcohol consumption).
Pregnant and lactating women are recommended to take 10% and 50% more vitamin A than the general population, respectively.
Note on the state of supply (National Consumption Study II 2008).
15 % of men and 10 % of women do not reach the recommended daily intake. Men and women aged 14-18 years are particularly affected.
