General measures
- Nicotine restriction (abstaining from tobacco use) – Smoking and passive smoking are best discontinued before pregnancy.
- Alcohol restriction (renunciation of alcohol) – for pregnant women is a strict ban on alcohol!
- Limited caffeine consumption (max. 240 mg caffeine per day; this corresponds to 2 to 3 cups of coffee or 4 to 6 cups of green / black tea).
- Sufficient weight gain or weight gain adjusted to the initial weight during pregnancy
- If necessary, determination of BMI (body mass index, body mass index) or body composition using electrical impedance analysis.

- Nutritional counseling based on nutritional analysis
- Nutritional recommendations according to a healthy mixed diet taking into account pregnancy. This means, among other things:
- Daily total of 5 servings of fresh vegetables and fruits (≥ 400 g; 3 servings of vegetables and 2 servings of fruit).
- Once or twice a week fresh sea fish, i.e. fatty marine fish (omega-3 fatty acids) such as salmon, herring, mackerel.
- High-fiber diet (whole grains, vegetables).
- Observance of the following special dietary recommendations:
- Eat a snack half an hour before getting up.
- Frequent small meals
- The diet should be high in carbohydrates and low in fat.
- Avoid acidic foods
- Drink plenty – 2-2.5 liters / day
- Ginger extracts, for example, tea.
- Avoiding unpleasant odors that can cause nausea and vomiting, such as the smell of meat.
- Selection of appropriate foods based on the nutritional analysis.
