Vulvitis: Complications

The following are the most important diseases that can be caused by vulvitis (inflammation of the external genitalia) including vulvar disease:

Skin and subcutaneous (L00-L99).

  • Anal region, perineum, gluteal region (buttock region), groin, mons pubis (mons veneris or mons pubis), rectal region:
    • Abscesses (encapsulated accumulation of pus).
    • Erysipelas – purulent infection of the skin and subcutaneous tissue (subcutis), which in the predominant case is caused by ß-hemolytic group A streptococci (Streptococcus pyogenes).
    • Ulcers (ulcers)

Infectious and parasitic diseases (A00-B99).

  • Secondary infections due to possible alterations

Neoplasms – tumor diseases (C00-D48)

  • Based on atrophic changes or HPV infection:
    • Carcinomas
    • Preneoplasias (precancerous lesions)

Psyche – nervous system (F00-F99; G00-G99)

  • Reactive depression

Pregnancy, childbirth, and puerperium (O00-O99)

  • Abortion (miscarriage)
  • Endometritis post partum (inflammation of the uterus after childbirth).
  • Premature birth
  • Infection after abortion
  • Secondary healing after episiotomy (perineal incision), perineal tear.
  • Premature rupture of the membranes
  • Premature labor

Genitourinary system (kidneys, urinary tract – reproductive organs) (N00-N99)

  • Adnexitis (inflammation of the fallopian tubes and ovaries).
  • Bleeding abnormalities (bleeding disorders).
  • Dyspareunia (painful intercourse)
  • Endometritis (inflammation of the uterus)
  • Pyelonephritis (inflammation of the renal pelvis)
  • Tuboovarian abscess – encapsulated collection of pus in the area of fallopian tubes / ovary.
  • Urethritis (inflammation of the urethra)
  • Vaginismus (vaginismus)
  • Vulva
    • Abscess
    • Ulceration
  • Cystitis (inflammation of the bladder)
