Water solubility | Treat nail fungus with varnish

Water solubility

Medical varnish which can be purchased in the pharmacy has proven to be effective for local application for nail fungus. Patients should note, however, that not all of the offered varnishes can be equally effective. In addition, the typical varnishes against nail fungus differ in their application and the respective solubility in water.

With traditional preparations, the affected nail surface must be thoroughly roughened before application. A distinction is also made between water-soluble and non-water-soluble nail fungicide varnishes. Non-water-soluble nail polish usually leaves a shiny, hard film on the nail surface after application.

The removal of non-water soluble lacquer is only possible with the help of a special nail polish remover. In contrast, the application and removal of water-soluble nail polish is relatively simple. Neither roughening of the nail surface before application, nor treatment of the nail substance with aggressive solvents is necessary.

Possible residues of the water-soluble nail polish can be easily rinsed off while washing your hands. For this reason, water-soluble lacquers are considered particularly gentle preparations in the treatment of nail fungus.
