- General physical examination – including blood pressure, pulse, body temperature, body weight, body height; further:
- Inspection (viewing).
- Skin and mucous membranes [insect bite? exanthema (rash)?]
- Neck [lymphadenopathy (lymph node enlargement)?]
- Auscultation (listening) of the heart.
- Auscultation of the lungs
- Palpation (palpation) of the abdomen (abdomen)
- Inspection (viewing).
- If necessary, neurological examination [due topossible secondary diseases.
- Meningitis? → neck stiffness
- Checking cranial nerve function: tests of vision and hearing, movement of facial muscles and tongue, muscle strength of arms and legs side by side]
