West Nile Fever: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of West Nile fever.

  • Have you been abroad recently? If so, where (endemic areas of India, Israel, the Middle East, western Turkey, parts of Southeast Asia and North and Central America, tropics)?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What symptoms have you noticed?
  • Do you suffer from symptoms of flu like general feeling of sickness?
  • Do you have a fever? If so, how high and for how long?
  • Do you have swollen lymph nodes?
  • Do you suffer from muscle pain, headaches and/or back pain?
  • Have you vomited?
  • Have you noticed a rash (from trunk to head and limbs)?
  • Have you noticed any changes such as movement or speech disorders?* .
  • Can you remember a mosquito bite?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Were you adequately protected against infectious diseases during your trip? Clothing?

Self history incl. medication history.
