What about the parental allowance for twins?

Parents who give birth to twins cannot receive double parental allowance for both children. Since 01. 01.

2015 there is another possibility for twins to get more parental allowance. It concerns thereby the so-called Mehrlingszuschlag. The parents receive for the twin who is born first the amount of parental allowance they are entitled to on the basis of their previous income (usually about 65% of it). For the “younger” twin, the parents receive a multiple supplement of 300,00€. This amount is fixed and also applies to triplets and other multiple births.

Am I allowed to take a mini-job while receiving parental benefit?

In former times there was an allowance in the context of the parents money, thus a sum, which one might earn monthly in addition without money to deliver. This tax-free amount no longer exists. One may accept a mini-job while receiving parental allowance.

The only condition is that you work a maximum of 30 hours per week. The only problem is that being diligent is not always worth it. If you earn extra money, the Parental Benefit Office will calculate the difference between the net amount of the parental benefit and the extra income from the mini-job. The previous replacement rate (usually 65%) is then only applied to the difference and paid out as new parental benefit. Before accepting a mini-job during the parental allowance, you should calculate how much money actually remains after the settlement.

When is parental allowance paid out?

If the parental allowance application was made and accepted, the parental allowance is transferred each month for the next twelve months. The amount is always paid out during the month. That means that the parents money should be paid out at the latest on the last day of the first month of life.

If a child is born on July 12, 2017, the parental allowance should be paid by August 11, 2017 at the latest. Depending on how the parental allowance application is processed, it may take a few weeks before the application is processed. The parental allowance can be paid retroactively for up to three months.

It is important to apply for parental allowance soon after the birth. The parents money is then paid out in principle in the course of the month for which it is intended. On a special request one can divide the parents money into two half amounts, which are transferred then twice in the month.
