What are conical interdental brushes – Who are they good for, what are their advantages?
Besides the typical cylindrical interdental brushes, there are also conical brushes in the shape of a fir tree. These conical interdental brushes are particularly suitable for large interdental spaces. Furthermore, they are particularly suitable for braces or reatiner carriers for cleaning the brackets.
In addition, they are also advantageous for cleaning the interdental spaces in the molar region. Due to the shape of the brush the tip of the brush gets a smaller diameter of the brush. The bristles are therefore shorter at the tip of the brush.
This makes it easier to insert the conical interdental brush into the interdental spaces. For this reason, it is also very suitable for places that are difficult to access. Its conical shape, with the bristles becoming constantly longer towards the end, ensures an optimal cleaning result. However, it is very important to guide the brush through the interdental space up to the end each time. Otherwise the plaque cannot be removed sufficiently, as the narrow tip of the brush usually does not touch the teeth at all.
Are there also electric interdental brushes?
In addition to the typical small manually applied interdental brushes, there are also products on the market advertised as electric interdental brushes. There are no purely electric interdental space brushes. The manufacturers of electric toothbrushes often advertise the ability of these to clean the interdental spaces.But an electric toothbrush cannot completely replace the function of an interdental brush.
In some cases, there are additional interdental attachments that can be used to rinse the interdental spaces. However, these have the disadvantage that they cannot achieve the effectiveness of a manual interdental brush. In general, an electric interdental brush has no advantages over manual brushes, since the latter are only passed through the interdental space 2-3 times. Furthermore, the manual brushes can be adjusted as desired and adapted to the interdental space. In summary, it can be said that the products advertised as electric interdental brushes have no advantages over manual brushes.
