What do I have to do if I also want to lose weight on my bottom and legs?

As already mentioned several times, it is largely genetically determined which fat pads the body goes to first. If the total body fat percentage decreases, you will lose weight on your stomach, buttocks and legs for a long time. Especially in women, these are zones where fat reserves are stored.

Sport can help us to define and shape the muscles in these zones. In addition, the large muscle groups of the buttocks and legs burn a lot of energy, even at rest they are big energy eaters. So, in order to expose the muscles, we should control our diet and consume less than we consume (without giving up the important muscle building blocks, the proteins, and healthy fats). In order to strengthen and shape the muscles, we can also use the weights and machines in the gym or at home.

Differences between men and women

Biologically, men and women tend to have different body shapes. This also results in different problem zones and fat pads in overweight. While men are more apple types and tend to have round bellies, women are pear types and store excess energy on their hips, buttocks and legs.

The abdominal fat of men is even more dangerous than the subcutaneous fat tissue typical for women. These are fat cells within and around the internal organs. The famous beer belly should be approached mainly for health reasons, because the so-called visceral fat of the organs is hormonally active and produces hormones that can increase blood pressure, blood lipid levels and blood sugar.

In the long term, this leads to diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases with the risk of strokes or heart attacks. Men with an abdominal girth over 100cm should definitely consider a change in their diet to get rid of the unhealthy abdominal fat. Women, on the other hand, tend to have fat pads on their hips, buttocks and legs; on the abdomen, these are more likely to be subcutaneous fatty tissue. It is not possible to go specifically to these reserves, because of a calorie deficit they achieve a total reduction which sooner or later will melt the pounds on the stomach.

Losing weight on the abdomen after pregnancy

A pregnancy usually causes a woman to gain a few kilos. This includes the weight of the growing child, the weight of the placenta, as well as a few kilos of water that accumulate naturally in the body. Due to the hormonal changes, pregnant women also often feel a desire for more and can therefore weigh several kilos more after giving birth.

Especially on the belly the skin has been stretched a lot in the last months. In order to get the body centre back into shape, the additional weight should be gradually reduced again (if it does not melt away through breastfeeding). Exercise and abdominal exercises are also an effective means of getting the abdomen back into shape after pregnancy, once the midwife and doctor have given the okay. It must be remembered that pregnancy is a great challenge for the body and that structures such as the shape of the abdominal wall cannot necessarily be returned to their original form.
