What is Ayurvedic Diet?

In the wellness sector, Ayurveda is already well known to most, especially because of the wonderfully gentle massages with oil, which are performed alone or – even better – in pairs. But what exactly is behind the term Ayurveda and what is meant by Ayurvedic diet?

Ayurveda – the holistic approach.

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian doctrine of being and health, which is still alive and cultivated in India today. According to it, illness is understood as a disturbance of the inner balance, which must be restored.

Dietary changes, purification, special Ayurvedic remedies, breathing and yoga exercises are used.

Harmonization and stimulation of vital energies.

The Ayurvedic diet should have a balancing and harmonizing effect on the body and thus stimulate the three life energies Vata, Pitta and Kapha, which each person carries in varying degrees. For this purpose, all tastes (sweet, sour, salty, bitter) are best present in the dishes.
The sluggish kapha type, for example, should stimulate his energies with spicy dishes that contain chilies or pepper.

Although animal foods are not forbidden in Ayurvedic cooking, they are used only very discreetly. Ayurveda is more of a vegetarian cuisine, supplemented with milk, cream, yogurt and kefir. Very important are spices, such as ginger, cinnamon, bay leaf, cardamom, saffron and pepper, whose good effects on digestion and metabolism are used.
