What is the educational mission of the parents?

In addition to the state educational mandate of the school system, there is also a parental mandate of equal standing. This is regulated by the Basic Law, which describes it as follows: Parents have the right and the duty to take over the education of their children. It is not prescribed how exactly this upbringing must look like, since everyone implements it individually.

However, the educational mandate for the parents fundamentally states that they should promote the development of the child‘s spirit, character and development. The upbringing should lead to the children and young people becoming their own personality and individual. Through education, children should develop into persons who can act socially and lead a self-organized life.

How do I do that if I want to transfer the parental assignment while on vacation?

In German law it is possible to transfer the educational mandate that parents have for their children to another person for a certain period of time. This should be a person of trust, as this person will take over the supervision of the child in the name of the parents. This person must be of legal age and must be able to take over the supervision of a minor and to direct and guide the minor.

If a person has been selected to take over the educational duties and thus be allowed to attend parties with the child or adolescent, for example, forms must be filled out. In this form, which can be obtained from the office, it is specified who the person who receives the educational and supervisory mandate is. In addition, the address and telephone number of the parent or guardian for contacting them in an emergency is also listed.

This form must be signed by all persons to be valid and the identity card (or a copy) must complete the form. If the person with the assigned parental authority does not comply with the duty of care of the person entrusted to him/her, it is possible that he/she will commit an administrative offence.
