What is the postoperative treatment after the surgery?

Since in the best case only one skin suture remains after the removal of a lipoma, there is no concept for aftercare. Care should be taken to ensure that the skin can heal well and does not become infected during this process. In the first few days, plasters or bandages are used for this purpose. If the lipoma has previously caused other symptoms, such as pain or sensory disturbances caused by pressure on a nerve, it should be checked whether these symptoms have improved as a result of the operation.

Can the lipoma be removed without surgery?

Besides the usual surgical method of removing a lipoma, there is now an alternative. Some doctors offer to treat lipomas with so-called “fat-path injections”. This makes use of the mechanism of lipolysis.

This means that the fat, of which the lipoma ultimately consists, is dissolved. The disadvantage of this approach is that the capsule of the lipoma remains in the body. It can still only be completely removed by surgery.
