Duration

The diarrhea should not last longer than a few days. If the diarrhea persists, a doctor should be consulted, otherwise complications due to the loss of fluid may occur. In addition, a smear infection can lead to a bacterial infection of the vagina. Especially diarrhoea at the beginning of pregnancy usually never lasts for several days at a time. They occur more frequently alternating with constipation.Long lasting diarrhea over several weeks is often a sign of a gastro-intestinal disease and is in most cases not related to pregnancy.

Can diarrhea be a sign of pregnancy?

Diarrhea is not a typical sign of pregnancy. The hormonal changes during pregnancy can cause constipation or even nausea and vomiting. However, diarrhoea is not a typical symptom.

Therefore, diarrhoea cannot be considered a sign of pregnancy. Since the most frequent diarrhea is rather caused by a conscious change in diet during early pregnancy, the pregnancy is usually already known at this time. An overview of possible signs of pregnancy can be found here: Signs of Pregnancy
